Check Your Jacket Label

To begin with, if you already own a suit jacket, check the label to determine your size. In this instance, the jacket size is 50.

European, American, and Australian Sizing

Jackets are usually sized in European, American, or Australian sizes, and each uses a slightly different measurement system. It’s actually really simple when you break it down. Temu Plus Size Fashion

American Sizes

American sizes are based on inches. If your chest measures 40 inches, you’ll wear a size 40 jacket. Jackets increase in 2-inch increments: 38, 40, 42, and so on.

Australian Sizes

Australian sizes, on the other hand, are based on centimeters. If your chest measures 100 centimeters, you’ll be a size 100. They increase in increments of 4 centimeters: 96, 100, 104, and so on. Learn more about Budget Blazers

European Sizes

European sizes are a little bit more complex. They are also based on the inch system; however, we add 10 to determine your size. If your chest measures 40 inches, we add 10, which results in a size 50. European sizes also increase in increments of 2: 48, 50, 52, and so on. Suit Size Chart by Height and Weight

I have based my suit sizing on the European system as it’s more widely acknowledged. You’ll find a link to my size chart in the online store below this article.

Jacket Length: S, R, or L

You may also notice the letters S, R, or L beside your size on a jacket label. This refers to the length of your jacket: S is for short, R is for regular,r and L is for long. This will determine how long or how short you would like the jacket to be.

  • Between 164 and 17 centimeters: a short fit will suit you.
  • For heights of 85 centimeters or less, a regular fit will suit you.
  • Taller than 186 centimeters: you will require a long fitting.

What to Expect When Ordering a Suit Online

Just to set some expectations from the start, it is very rare to find an off-the-rack suit that fits you perfectly straight out of the box. Everyone’s body is a little different, but that is completely normal. With the right measurements, you’ll have a better chance of getting the ideal suit that will need only a few minor adjustments. Whether it’s a trouser leg or a sleeve, you can get a minor alteration like that done at your local tailor for a fraction of the cost of a made-to-measure suit. Our goal is to be completely transparent. If your suit doesn’t fit perfectly out of the box, that doesn’t mean it’s the wrong size. It can mean it just needs to go to a tailor for slight alterations to make it perfect for you.

Between Two Sizes?

If you think you’re between two sizes, we would always recommend going for the larger one, because it’s easier to get something taken in than to get something let out.

How to Take Your Key Measurements

Below, we walk you through exactly how to take each key measurement from our suppliers’ size guides, which are available on every product page on our website.

Blazer and Jacket Measurements

Chest

Take a tape measure around the widest part, usually across the nipples, and make sure your arms are relaxed and down by your sides. Don’t puff your chest out. Just stand naturally. This will give you a pretty clear indication of which blazer size you should go for. This number in inches typically matches your blazer size. If your chest measures 40 inches, you’ll usually be looking for a size 40 jacket.

Sleeve Length

Measure from the tip of your shoulder seam straight down to your wristbone. We recommend measuring to the wristbone, as that gives you just the right amount of shirt cuff showing, but sleeve length is personal, and you can tweak it to how you like it. Most of the jackets we sell come with around an inch of hem that a tailor can let out if you’ve got longer arms. If the sleeves need shortening, that’s a simple, affordable alteration.

Back Length

Take your tape measure from the base of the collar straight down to the bottom hem of where the jacket would sit. Ideally, the blazer should finish around the seat. Not too short and not too long.

Waistcoat Measurements

Choosing the Right Size

The chest measurement you took earlier will play a big role in choosing the correct size. The waistcoat should not be tight under the armpits and should not show any signs of gaping at the buttons, as that indicates it is too tight.

Back Length

Go from the base of the collar down to the bottom hem of the waistcoat, ideally around the waist, as the name suggests.

Adjusters and Common Alterations

All of our waistcoats come with either side adjusters or a rear buckle to give you a better fit around the waist. A common alteration we see with waistcoats, especially with shorter customers, is having the waistcoat lifted. If you notice excess fabric bunching near the back of the seat, a tailor can lift the waistcoat by adjusting the shoulders to give a cleaner silhouette. We still recommend going true to size in the chest so it doesn’t gape under the arms.

Shirt Measurements

Neck

Wrap a tape measure around your neck, then either add half an inch or slip a finger between the tape and your neck so it’s snug but not too tight. When buttoned up, you should be able to comfortably fit a finger between your neck and the collar. Any looser and the collar might slump, p ,and your tie won’t sit right.

Chest and Sleeve Length

These are taken in exactly the same way as shown above for the blazer.

Trouser Measurements

Waist

Grab a pair that already fits you well. Lay them flat on the floor and measure the waistband from one side to the other. This will give you the width, which matches how our suppliers size their garments. Keep in mind that suit trousers usually run one size up from your jeans. Men’s Blazer Size Chart

Inside Leg

Line up the pleat and lay the trousers flat on the floor. Fold one leg over and measure from the crotch seam down to the bottom hem. Like the jackets, our trousers also come with an extra inch of hem for length.
