Montech Doom Snowboard Jacket First Impressions Review

New Jacket for Winter Movies

Hello, here’s an article you probably did not expect. I got a new ski jacket, so you know winter is coming, and another winter movie is on the way. I’ve got to look stylish.

The reason I still decided to make this type of article is that we make movies like this, and I needed something that better fits my GoPro gear, batteries, and accessories. I already started the winter season with this jacket and got a banger photo with it. I really like this photo. See also: Try our Suit size calculator

I wanted to write a first impressions review of this jacket because it’s still somewhat connected to the behind-the-scenes: how I stash my gear and how I create these movies. Now I should have more room for more accessories.

I want to correct myself immediately: this jacket was named a snowboard jacket, not a ski jacket as I said.

Montech Doom Shell Version

Size and Fit

This is the Montech Doom. I got the shell version instead of the insulated one because it doesn’t get that cold here in Estonia, and when it does, I can add inner layers. I got the XL, and my height is 188 cm, which I believe is 6’2″. When I put this on, it still feels weird, like someone is trying to pull it away from you. Read our complete guide on Budget Blazers

Zippers

The middle zipper moves smoothly until you reach this point, and then you have to do something like this. On the right side, you have a shorter zipper that goes all the way here. It’s for when the temperature gets too hot and you’re starting to overheat. It’s also for when you’re trying to put the hood on, and maybe a helmet. In case you didn’t know, you can fit it with a helmet. Boom, really nice soft padding there, the microfleece.

Sleeves and Ventilation

Wrist Gaiters

You have these wrist gaiters to keep the snow out and your wrists warm. A really nice thing about it is that the sleeves are quite big, so you can tighten them however you want or loosen them to access your watch if you need to. I found myself wanting to do that. On the left forearm, there’s a pocket for a ski pass. Learn more about Best Waterproof Ski Jackets

Underarm Zippers

Both underarms also have dual zippers. I have my hoodie here immediately. This doesn’t have any mesh material blocking it, so I can immediately touch my hoodie. These are for some ventilation.

Pockets

Phone Pocket

Now the pockets, starting from the top. Here you have a regular small pocket with a softer inner pocket for your phone, which fits like this. I have my phone here and my keys in my lower kangaroo pocket. When I was tightening the bindings and trying to get up, I actually barely felt them. With my older jacket, I always felt my phone in my lower side pocket, pressing against my stomach as I tightened the bindings or tried to get up. The positioning here is really nice. I barely felt the keys in my kangaroo pocket either, so this central positioning is definitely better.

Inner Media Pocket

Future me here, recording this later, about the inner pocket for media. Here, the phone goes vertically. I didn’t know this before, but you can fit a headphone cord in here, so it’s better to do that if the phone is in a vertical position. It goes in from here, comes out from the inside, and you pull it up to your ears. Here was the phone pocket.

Kangaroo Pocket

Next up, we have a pocket that opens the same way. The zippers open, and here is a pocket this size again. This is the kangaroo pocket. From the sides, you have both zippers going down, and you can put your hand through. But the upper pocket right here is actually a separate pocket on top of it, so these ones and this one don’t connect. Discover everything about the Suit Size Chart by Height and Weight

Side Zippers and Security

Many people in the reviews I watched mentioned that if you forget to leave one of these side zippers open, you might lose something. For me, that wouldn’t be a problem because I always triple-check everything. It’s a habit I have, a blessing and a curse. If you’re the same way, you can probably store something in there too.

I will say that I’ve only had it for a week. Over time, zippers can become loose, and even if you keep them zipped up, one will eventually start to give out. Currently, the zippers feel quite firm, but these upper ones are probably the safest bet for your items.

Pocket Positioning

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with it. It does look great, and the pocket positioning turned out to be a pretty big win for me. I can fit my phone, keys, extra batteries, and GoPros.

I almost forgot to mention the inner pocket right here. You have really soft material here.

Inner Liner and Snow Skirt

Here’s a little demonstration of how it zips up. Near the zipper, you have these buttons that button up, so let’s tighten it. Boom. Here is the lower inner liner that wraps around and helps to keep the snow out.

Here is probably the first problematic spot. Get it straight, and right here it starts to go like this, so again, some help, and with a little bit of help, boom, got it. I can’t really say yet how the zippers will be after this season. We’ll see.

Overall Pretty Satisfied

As I said, this is a first impressions article, a little review. I hope it helps you out. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied, even though I’ve only used it for a week and have no complaints yet. The only thing I could see, and would have to review later, is maybe the zippers, but they really do feel firm and solid right now.

I can’t wait to make more winter movies with the crew and enjoy the season. Here in Estonia, it’s the end of November, and the conditions are actually pretty sick. Explore our article in detail: Best Waterproof Men’s Ski Jacket

A few notes on what I changed:

  • I removed filler repetitions and corrected obvious transcription errors (for example, “copro gamas” to “GoPro gear”, “wrist gers” to “wrist gaiters”, “micro flee” to “microfleece”).
  • Two spots were unclear in the original, so I made my best guess: “grid grid material” became “mesh material”, and “Runo” became “Future me”.
  • All headings are built from words already in your text, so no new wording was added.
  • The original says “article” where it reads like a video script. Keep that in mind if you publish it, and you may want to replace phrases like “here” and “like this” with photos or descriptions.
  • For E-E-A-T, adding your photos, your name, and a note about how long you’ve tested the jacket would help. I left those out because you asked me not to add anything of my own.

Pockets and Comfort

The pocket positioning is definitely better. With my older jacket, I always felt my phone in my lower side pocket, pressing against my stomach as I tightened the bindings or tried to get up. With this jacket, you could even feel my phone or my keys.

Zippers

Ovmighstart tote, zippers can become loose, and you might have them zipped up, but someday one starts to give out. Currently, the zippers feel quite firm, but the upper pockets are probably the safest bet for your items.

The Season Ahead

As I said, this is a first impressions review, and I hope it helps you out. I can’t wait to make more winter movies with the crew and enjoy the season. Here in Estonia, it’s the end of November, and the conditions are actually pretty sick.
